How to get ahead in publishing

A new blog by a disgruntled “senior publishing executive” in New York City has an helpful list of insider tips for authors who want to increase their public and in-house profile. Calling himself “Mad Max Perkins,” the blogger claims to have set up the site to encourage publishing types and authors to anonymously vent their frustrations — and share their passions — about the bookselling business. Besides advising authors to choose the right editor and consider hiring some independent publicity help, Perkins stresses the need to “get over the mindset that just because you have a publisher, they will do everything for you. A publisher is a partner, not a savior.”
