HockeyLit students expected to give 110%

Hockey as the subject of academic study is not a new idea, especially in Canada, but the Seattle Post-Intelligencer has an article on what may be the first university course on hockey literature. The University of Victoria second-year English course, taught by academic, author, and poet Doug Beardsley, will focus on representations of the national game in literature. The pun-ridden article — Beardsley is described as having “stick-handled his way through academe” to set up the course — reports that the 40 spaces available to students have been filled well in advance of the January start date.
