Life and literature on the street
The Canadian Press has an update on a book club for Vancouver sex workers. Organized by bookseller Mary Trentadue, the club’s first selection was Maggie de Vries’s Missing Sarah (Penguin Canada), a memoir about the author’s sister (who was a victim of serial killer Robert Pickton). The latest pick is Billie Livingston’s 2000 novel Going Down Swinging (Random House Canada). In each case, more than 100 copies have circulated, thanks to publisher donations and a sponsorship program at Trentadue’s store, 32 Books.
