The adults are all right

Somewhere in Noah Richler’s latest Toronto Star column, there’s an admiring review of Miriam Toews’s new novel, A Complicated Kindness (Knopf Canada). But first there are some pokes at uppity young folks, some fond memories of England’s literary attack culture, and a swipe at Ryan Bigge’s recent “think piece” in the National Post (which is linked to below). Still, Richler makes a worthy point when discussing the urban-vs.-rural CanLit debate: “Deciding that we are an ‘urban nation’ or that Prairie subjects are by definition stultifying is actually parochial.”
