Joseph Boyden edits Penguin Canada anthology in support of No More Stolen Sisters

Penguin Canada released a limited-edition anthology on Monday in support of Amnesty International’s No More Stolen Sisters campaign, to which all of the book’s proceeds will go.

Edited by Joseph Boyden, Kwe: Standing With Our Sisters was inspired by the “deep frustration, anger, and sorrow” caused by recent assaults upon First Nation women. The collection contains new writing and artwork by more than 50 renowned Canadian contributors such as Margaret Atwood, Julie Flett, Lee Maracle, Michael Ondaatje, John Ralston Saul, and others.

Boyden said in a press release:

“We had dozens of submissions from writers and artists eager to support the families of missing and murdered Indigenous women, artists who wanted to lend their voice. This is a call for action. We’re part of a rising chorus in this nation that demands that the federal government respond in a real way. I hope this collection draws much needed attention to the crisis and shows we can act swiftly when we put our minds to it.”

Penguin will cover all production and print costs for the anthology, which is available in digital format through major online retailers. A print edition will be sold Dec. 18 at Toronto’s The Basement Revue and in January via the Amnesty International Book Club.
