Kevin Phillips’ The Bologna Cookbook, published by Newfoundland’s Flanker Press, placed third in the best meat cookbook category at this year’s Gourmand World Cookbook Awards Best in the World competition.

The book, Phillips’ first, and the first-ever all-bologna cookbook, was one of 31 English-language and 15 French-language Canadian winners announced earlier this year. It was awarded third place in the world competition at a ceremony on June 9.

Phillips had intended to compile his favourite lost old-time recipes, but after finding that more than two hundred of them contained bologna, decided he would devote his entire book to the sandwich meat.

Flanker Press president Gary Cranford said in a press release that the publisher is “thrilled” and “delighted” about both the Canadian and world wins for the title.
