Kate Pullinger named Wordfest’s Anne Green Award recipient

The new media maven: Kate PullingerKate Pullinger is the recipient of this year’s Anne Green Award, presented annually by Calgary’s Wordfest to artists “whose work explores and challenges the traditional form of story and narrative.”

Pullinger receives the award for Landing Gear, published in April by Doubleday Canada. The novel grew out of a digital fiction project called Flight Paths, in which the story of an airport stowaway named Yacub unfolds in collaboration with internet users around the world. Landing Gear tells a similar, novel-length story and also received the digital treatment. Pullinger is the author of 10 novels, including the novelization Jane Campion’s film The Piano, which she co-wrote with the filmmaker.

The Anne Green Award will be presented at a “Storytelling on the Digital Edge” discussion with Pullinger and New York Magazine contributing editor Adam Sternberg. The event takes place Oct. 18 at the Banff Centre.
