Canadian publishing houses dominate the North American category of this year’s Bologna Prize, which honours the best international publishers of the year.

Kids Can Press, Groundwood Books, and La Pastèque will compete against U.S. firms Little Brown and Company and Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group for the title.

This is the second year of the prize, which highlights the “editorial projects, professional skills, and intellectual qualities of work produced by publishing houses all over the world.” Winners from seven geographic regions will be announced on March 24. The winners are selected by publishers participating in the Bologna Children’s Book Fair. Annick Press and Groundwood were nominated in 2013, but lost to San Francisco”“based Chronicle Books.
